Atlanta Mission:
Restoration House
Atlanta Mission officials sought to re-imagine the Ethel Street Property, known as the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children, to provide women and children with an innovative shelter. They decided to demolish the existing facility and re-develop a 48,000-square-foot multi-functional shelter, including bedrooms, children’s area, offices, assembly space, Mercy Care, classrooms, exam rooms, kitchen and dining, laundry facilities, parking, courtyard, and a children’s playground.
The new, larger facility, Restoration House, has expanded its daytime services by 20% and added 102 new beds for women and children in need. This significant increase in capacity clearly indicates Atlanta Mission’s progress and commitment to serving the community.
The innovative space features an open design that cultivates transparency and design aesthetics to create a welcoming environment for those who have experienced trauma. The new facility features a fully operational Mercy Care clinic that services more than 4,000 patients yearly. In addition, the Atlanta Mission@Work vocational training and job placement program will operate from this location.
