Athens Classic Center Renovation

Campus Additions & Renovations

IMPACT has assisted Athens-Clarke County Unified Government with numerous projects from their 2005 SPLOST program, including expansions and improvements to The Classic Center.

Projects included: expanding the Grand Hall from 22,000 to 55,000 SF, construction of The Atrium, an 18,000 SF assembly and event space, upgrades and improvements to The Foundry Building, support and pre-function spaces, food service spaces, restrooms and ancillary offices. All spaces were equipped with state-of-the-art lighting controls and audio-video capabilities.

One major component of the Foundry Project was the erection of a pedestrian bridge from the new Upper Level, across Foundry Street and tying into the Foundry Street Warehouse. This bridge connection included an extension of the Warehouse elevator up to the bridge level making, for the first time, an accessible connection between the Classic Center facilities. In 2015, The Pavilion was constructed as a venue for the farmer’s market, ice hockey games, concerts and parking for RV’s with utility connections for UGA football games.

For each of these projects, numerous public input work sessions were held to receive comments and suggestions and allow the Athens community to participate in the process.
